Reasons To Study Spanish In Guatemala

In addition to a country that is rich in culture and traditions, Guatemala is also a wonderful place to study Spanish. What better place is there to learn a language than a country in which that same language is the native tongue?

One of the most popular reasons to study Spanish in Guatemala is the idea that, while learning, students are also exposed to the culture firsthand. This is much different than attending a conventional university, which has it’s own advantages, but to study Spanish in Guatemala offers individuals the ability to practice the language in everyday life, observe it’s use and become comfortable with it’s variations.

The personal attention is another popular reason why many students choose to study Spanish in Guatemala. There is approximately one teacher for every student and classes are conveniently held in 4 or 7 hour days. This allows for individuals to learn Spanish and still have time to experience the unspoiled nature that is found in many parts of this country.

Guatemala Spanish Experience

Many students choose to live with a Guatemala host family while attending class. This is an especially popular option as it allows students to become a temporary part of a new family and learn what everyday life is like. It also may help to keep the student from growing lonely, which may be the case if they were to live alone in a foreign land. For those who are especially independent, however, there are options for living alone during classes. As expected, this may include renting a house, an apartment or even renting a hotel.

Americans often choose to study Spanish in Guatemala, in part, because of it’s close proximity to the United States. Guatemala is just a few hours from either Houston, Texas or Miami, Florida and this allows for a pretty quick commute and affordable airfare. If studying abroad is the individual’s education choice, it is never a bad idea to be as close to home as possible.

When enrolling in classes, students should keep in mind that they are required to have a passport for entry into Guatemala. Temporary visas are generally valid for 30 to 90 days and students should carry their passport and another type of photo identification with them at all times.
